Biography
Brian Smith is a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, representing the 66th district since January 2021. The district covers all of Jefferson County and portions of Indiana County, including townships like Banks, Canoe, East Mahoning, and boroughs such as Cherry Tree, Ernest, and Smicksburg. A lifelong resident of the district, he is a devoted family man married to Linda with three children. Smith is a successful entrepreneur with a background in construction, heavy equipment operation, and transportation. He is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and prioritizes issues like Second Amendment rights, protecting life, election reform, rural economic growth, volunteer emergency responders, drug epidemic response, and tourism. Notable achievements include serving his third term as of January 2025 and appointments to the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee in 2023.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Marion Center Area High School in 1987; attended Penn State University for business and accounting from 1987 to 1989.
- Early Career and Community Involvement: Worked in construction, heavy equipment, and transportation in the 1990s; board member and vice president of the Punxsutawney Chamber of Commerce; president and treasurer of the Punxsutawney Rotary Club, earning Rotarian of the Year and “Person of Action” award .
- Political Roles: Elected to Punxsutawney Borough Council in 2014, serving as president from 2016; elected to the Pennsylvania House in 2020 without opposition and sworn in January 2021, succeeding Cris Dush.
