Biography
Brian Burnett
Brian K. Burnett was born in 1968 and is a Republican representing Washington's 12th District in the state House of Representatives. His district includes Chelan County and parts of Snohomish and King counties. He assumed office on January 15, 2025, following his election in 2024, when he received 53.26% of the vote in the general election. He currently resides in Wenatchee with his wife April, whom he has been married to for nearly 37 years. Together they have seven children and ten grandchildren.
Political Experience
Burnett brings extensive law enforcement experience to his legislative role, with over 25 years in the field. He served as the elected Chelan County Sheriff for 12 years before retiring in January 2023. During his tenure as Sheriff, he implemented a Regional Mental Health Co-Response Team serving Chelan and Douglas counties and secured a $1.2 million capital projects grant for a Regional Emergency Operations Center.
He held significant leadership positions within law enforcement organizations, serving as President of the Washington State Sheriffs Association , Vice President , and Secretary/Treasurer . He also served as a commissioner for the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
Current Positions and Priorities
Burnett serves on several legislative committees: Civil Rights & Judiciary, Community Safety, Early Learning Human Services, and Appropriations. He holds the position of Assistant Republican Whip and serves as Assistant Ranking Member on certain committees.
His key legislative priorities include public safety, protecting private property rights, promoting fiscal responsibility, and reducing the tax burden on Washington residents. He also serves as Director of Law Enforcement Services for Seattle's Finest Security and Traffic Control and as the Administrative Liaison for the Washington State Sheriffs Association.
