Biography

Brian Birdwell is a lifelong conservative Republican representing Texas Senate District 22, a native Texan born in Fort Worth and hailing from Granbury. A decorated retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel with 20 years of service, including a Bronze Star for Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, he survived severe burns from the 2001 Pentagon attack. Elected in a 2010 special election and re-elected multiple times with over 85% of the vote, he co-founded Face the Fire Ministries with his wife Mel to support burn survivors and veterans, and co-authored Refined by Fire. Notable achievements include authoring the Stronger Border, Safer Texas Act, leading Texas's Article V convention of states resolution in 2017, chairing the Sunset Commission for agency reforms like the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and passing laws on education access, eminent domain protections, gun rights, and veteran services. He holds top ratings from pro-life, pro-business, and conservative groups.
