Biography

Brett R. Lindstrom is an American politician, financial advisor, and Republican who formerly represented Nebraska's 18th Legislative District in the Nebraska Legislature from 2015 until term-limited. A lifelong Nebraskan born in Lincoln and raised in Omaha, he unsuccessfully ran for U.S. Congress in 2012, placed third in the 2022 Republican gubernatorial primary, and dropped out of the 2026 Republican primary for Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District in January 2026 due to political divisiveness. Notable achievements include chairing the State-Tribal Relations Committee, serving on committees for Banking, Commerce, and Insurance; Natural Resources; and Nebraska Retirement Systems, pushing income tax reductions , and voting to repeal the death penalty in 2015. Married to Leigh Ancona since 2007, they have three children.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Graduated from Millard West High School in Omaha; earned a B.S. in history from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2004, where he walk-on for the Cornhuskers football team as a backup quarterback, playing in five games.
  • Political Experience: Elected to Nebraska Legislature's 18th District in 2014, surviving the 2018 "blue wave"; co-chair of Next Generation Nebraska ; known for bipartisan and fiscal conservative efforts in a nonpartisan body.
