Biography
Brett Barker is a Republican State Representative for Iowa House District 51, serving Story County. He is a pharmacist and vice president of operations at NuCara Pharmacy in Nevada, Iowa, and previously served as Senior Policy Advisor for the Iowa Pharmacy Association. Barker lives in Nevada with his wife Tracy and their five children. An Eagle Scout from a Navy family, he emphasizes service through involvement in his local church , volunteer community, and Republican Party roles, including Chair of the Republican Party of Story County since 2015 and Young Republican National Federation Midwest Regional Vice Chair.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of J.D. Darnall High School in Geneseo, Illinois; Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Iowa .
- Political Experience: Elected to Nevada City Council in 2010 and served as Mayor of Nevada. Announced candidacy for Iowa House District 51 in 2023 following Rep. Dave Deyoe's retirement. Elected to the Iowa House for the 91st General Assembly .
- Current Positions: Vice Chair of the House Health and Human Services Committee; member of Commerce, Economic Growth and Technology, and Natural Resources committees; serves on Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee.
- Notable Focus Areas: Advocates for economic development, healthcare policy, rural revitalization, and foster care to support families and rural communities.
