Biography
Representative Brenda Steady – Vermont House
Brenda Steady is a Republican member of the Vermont House of Representatives representing the Chittenden‑25 district, which includes the communities of East Milton and surrounding areas. A lifelong resident of Milton, Vermont, she is the youngest of six children and has been married for 45 years. She and her husband have two adult sons and one granddaughter.
Representative Steady is now retired from her previous professional work and has transitioned into full‑time public service as a State Legislator. Outside of politics, she has long been active in her community, including as a member of the United Church of Milton, and has been involved in her granddaughter’s youth sports and horse activities.
Education
Brenda Steady graduated from Milton High School and later attended Champlain College. During high school, she was active in athletics and student leadership, participating in field hockey, basketball, and softball, contributing to the yearbook and school newspaper, and serving on the student council.
Political Experience
Representative Steady was first elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 2024 and began serving in January 2025. She represents Chittenden‑25 as a Republican and holds seat number 13 in the House.
Before her election to the legislature, Steady accumulated extensive local‑government experience. She served nine years as a school trustee and seven years as a member of the Milton Selectboard. For 22 years she held the position of Justice of the Peace and Civil Board member, and she was active on committees that helped bring Kindergarten into the local school system and on two charter‑change efforts for the town.
She previously served on the council of the United Church of Milton, has been a longstanding member of the Order of the Eastern Stars , and was a very active volunteer in her children’s schools, including coaching Middle School Boys Basketball and Odyssey of the Mind.
