Biography
Brandon R. Wipf, born March 12, 1986, is a Republican state senator representing District 22 in the South Dakota State Senate since 2025. A third-generation farmer from rural Huron and Doland in southern Spink County, he operates a diversified farm raising soybeans, corn, wheat, alfalfa, and grass hay, emphasizing conservation, forage production, and precision agriculture. He was appointed by Governor Larry Rhoden to replace David Wheeler. Wipf lives in rural Huron with his wife Mandy, an engineer with the U.S. Department of Energy and former U.S. Air Force officer, and their dog Sarge. Notable achievements include his election to the American Soybean Association Board of Directors in 2017, where he serves on the Conservation & Precision Agriculture advocacy team, and prior service on the South Dakota Soybean Association board since 2014. He is also an accomplished writer contributing to publications and has advanced training in music.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of James Valley Christian School and Dordt College with a degree in electrical engineering.
- Early Career: Worked at Daktronics before returning to farm with his family in 2009.
- Political Experience: Appointed to South Dakota State Senate in 2025; active advocate for agriculture policy at state and national levels, including completion of the ASA/DuPont Young Leader program.
