Biography

Brandon Guffey

Brandon Guffey was born on January 29, 1980, and is a Republican politician from South Carolina. He currently serves as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 48 in York County. Guffey is known for his advocacy work around youth protection and mental health awareness, particularly following the tragic loss of his oldest son, Gavin, to suicide in July 2022 after a sextortion crime. This personal tragedy motivated his entry into state legislature and his focus on child safety legislation.

Beyond his legislative work, Guffey is an entrepreneur and small business owner in the service and retail sectors with early roots in advertising. He serves as the Senior Executive Advisor for Cyber Dive and is the President of Less Than 3 , a 501 nonprofit organization dedicated to youth mental health and suicide prevention. He has also worked as a youth soccer coach and has been a vocal leader on pressing social and legislative issues.

Political Experience

Guffey began his political career as York County Councilman representing District 6, beginning in 2020 after defeating incumbent county councilmember Britt Blackwell in a primary runoff. He served in this position through 2022.

In 2022, Guffey ran for the South Carolina House of Representatives District 48 seat, replacing retiring Representative Bruce M. Bryant. He won the primary with 43% of the vote, forcing a runoff in which he secured 57% of the vote. In the general election, he swept every precinct in the district with 67% of the vote.

As a freshman representative beginning in January 2023, Guffey was assigned to the House Judiciary Committee and the House Regulations and Administrative Procedures Committee. He has sponsored and cosponsored multiple bills during his tenure.

Notable Achievements

Guffey's most significant legislative achievement is *Gavin's Law *, which he introduced and successfully passed. This landmark bill increases penalties for sextortion crimes and mandates awareness education programs in schools. He was named "Legislator of the Year" by the South Carolina Counseling Association for his work on youth protection and mental health advocacy. Additionally, Guffey received an endorsement from President Donald Trump in 2024 and has traveled nationally delivering keynote addresses on youth protection legislation and digital threats facing today's youth.
