Biography
Brandon Elefante is a Democratic State Senator representing District 16 in Hawaii, covering the neighborhoods of ‘Aiea, Pearl City, Hālawa, and Waipahū on Oahu. Elected on November 8, 2022, in a landslide with 74% of the vote, he became Hawaii’s youngest State Senator at age 36. Notable achievements include serving eight years on the Honolulu City Council , where he chaired the Committee on Zoning and Planning, winning a Pacific Business News 40 Under 40 award, and introducing 24 bills in his 2023 legislative session on issues like mental health, transportation safety, fireworks, and infrastructure. He currently chairs the Senate Committee on Labor and Technology and serves on the Senate Committee on Transportation, prioritizing affordable housing, climate change, and economic recovery.
Education and Political Experience
- Earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College in 2008; pursued activities like resident advisor and Business Manager of The Collegian newspaper.
- Obtained a Master’s in Business Administration from Chaminade University in 2011.
- High school teacher and coach at Damien Memorial School; staff assistant in the Hawaii State Senate to Senator Will Espero; worked in higher education.
- Legislative aide to Honolulu City Councilmember Breene Harimoto , handling infrastructure, development, and constituent issues.
- Elected to Honolulu City Council in 2014 for ‘Aiea, Pearl City, and Waipahū; reelected in 2018.
