Biography
Brad Halbrook
Brad Halbrook is a Republican member of the Illinois General Assembly representing the 107th District. He was born in Pana, Illinois, and is a diversified farmer and small business owner who previously ran a fence-making company. Halbrook is married to Linda and has two children.
Politically, Halbrook identifies as both socially and fiscally conservative. He supports lowering taxes, increasing Illinois jobs, and reforming worker's compensation laws. He opposes abortion, same-sex marriage, and gun control. Notably, in 2012, Halbrook became one of the first state legislators to decline participation in the Illinois General Assembly Retirement System pension, citing its underfunded and overly generous nature.
Political Experience
Halbrook was appointed to the Illinois House in April 2012 to fill the retiring term of Roger L. Eddy. He served from April 2012 to January 2015 but did not run for re-election in 2014, being succeeded by Reggie Phillips. He returned to the Illinois House following the 2016 elections and has served continuously since January 2017.
During his tenure, Halbrook has advocated for property tax caps and opposed income tax increases. In February 2021, he introduced a measure calling for Chicago to become its own state, though the proposal received no co-sponsors. He serves on several Illinois House committees, including the Appropriations - General Service Committee, Cities & Villages Committee, Counties & Townships Committee, Housing Committee, Energy and Environment Committee, and Labor and Commerce Committee.
