Bobby Kaufmann

Bobby Kaufmann is an American politician born in 1985 who represents Iowa House District 82, which includes his hometown of Wilton. He is a member of the Republican Party. Kaufmann is the son of Jeff Kaufmann, who serves as Chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa.

Political Experience

Kaufmann was first elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2012 and has served continuously since then. In August 2025, he was elected House Majority Leader, replacing Rep. Matt Windschitl who resigned to run for Congress in Iowa's 4th District.

Since 2022, Kaufmann has chaired the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees tax policy. Throughout his legislative career, he has been involved in passing significant legislation, including laws that shortened the early voting window, cut state income taxes, and restricted the use of eminent domain for carbon capture pipelines.

In 2023, Kaufmann was appointed as a senior advisor on Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, focusing on Iowa caucuses strategy. He has also proposed legislation to restrict voting rights in Iowa and has promoted claims related to voter fraud concerns.

Kaufmann has run unopposed in the Republican primary elections for 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024. In the 2022 general election for his district, he won with 8,847 votes in a turnout of 12,792 voters.
