Biography
Bobby Gibson is a Democratic member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing the 15th District . He was elected in a special election and assumed office on January 9 or 12, 2018, succeeding David A. Baram. Born and raised in Bloomfield, Connecticut, where he still resides, Gibson is a former educator and coach with over two decades of experience positively influencing students in Bloomfield Public Schools, Hartford Public Schools, and the Capitol Region Education Council , which he joined in 2015. He has coached hundreds of student-athletes, winning conference and state championships in basketball, track and field, and football. Notable achievements include sponsoring and passing Public Act 19-12 for the inclusion of African American, Black, Puerto Rican, and Latino studies in Connecticut schools; championing Holocaust education; securing direct flights from Bradley International Airport to Jamaica; and passing the Connecticut Grown for Connecticut Kids grant program. His legislative priorities focus on education, the environment, seniors, veterans, and fair living conditions. He has received numerous awards, including from the Connecticut NAACP, Connecticut League of Conservation Voters Environmental Champion, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Gibson serves on boards such as Discovering Amistad and the Bloomfield Junior Warhawks Youth Football Team, and is involved with the Sons of the American Legion, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity , and Hopewell Baptist Church. In leadership roles, he has served as Assistant Majority Leader , Chief Majority Whip , Assistant Deputy Speaker , and currently as Deputy Speaker . He is Vice Chair of the House General Law Committee.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Gibson attended Southern Connecticut State University, earned a Bachelor of Arts from Charter Oak State College, and a Master of Arts from The Graduate Institute in Bethany, Connecticut.
Political Experience: Elected to the Connecticut House in 2018 for the 15th District; tenure from 2018–present, with term ending in 2027. Previously a teacher and coach; active in community service through various organizations prior to entering politics.
