Biography
Bob Owen
Robert "Bob" Owen is a Republican politician currently serving as a member of the Louisiana Senate representing District 1, which covers parts of Orleans, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, and Plaquemines Parishes. He was elected to the Senate on October 14, 2023, receiving 61% of the vote to defeat Ray Garofalo. He is eligible to serve through the end of the 2032-2036 term.
Owen resides in Slidell, Louisiana, with his wife Cindy and is a Christian. Prior to his Senate election, he served in the Louisiana House of Representatives representing the 76th district from 2020 to 2024.
Owen is the Executive Director of Attention Deficit Disorders Clinics of Mississippi and The Center for Health Management. Before entering electoral politics, he worked as a lobbyist at the Louisiana State Legislature and previously held positions including Executive Manager at PrescriptFit Medical Nutrition Therapy & Weight Loss Plan and Director of Sales and Market Development at Pearl River Eco-Tours.
Education
Owen earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from Louisiana State University in 1999. He attended Northshore High School.
Political Experience
Owen serves on the Senate Committee on Legislative Budget and the Senate Committee on Education. He is a vocal supporter of term limits and received a 100% Pro-Life voting record rating from Louisiana Right to Life in 2023.
Notable legislative positions include voting in favor of Constitutional Carry legislation and measures supporting law enforcement liability protections. He introduced bills addressing school safety policies and high school graduation requirements. Owen voted against a moratorium on carbon capture projects in Lake Maurepas.
