Biography
Senator Robert W. Norris is a Republican representing the Franklin District in the Vermont State Senate, serving since 2023. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, Vermont, he resides in Sheldon with his wife Elizabeth A. ; they have four children and ten grandchildren. He is Catholic, affiliated with St. Patrick’s Parish, and serves as Moderator for the Town of Sheldon, along with past roles as Zoning Administrator, town juror, town agent, and justice of the peace.
Notable achievements include a 30-year career in law enforcement, retiring in 2019 after 20 years as Franklin County Sheriff, during which he served on numerous local and national committees. In the Senate, he holds key positions such as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Canvassing Committee, Joint Legislative Justice Oversight Committee, County and Regional Governance Study Committee, Judicial Nominating Board, and State Aid for School Construction Working Group.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans in 1975; Associate of Science in Criminal Justice from Community College of Vermont in 1994.
