Biography
Bob Donovan represents Wisconsin's 61st Assembly District in the Wisconsin State Assembly, where he has served since 2025 after previously holding the 84th District in 2023–2024 and winning reelection in 2024. Born May 4, 1956, in Milwaukee, he is a longtime public servant from Milwaukee County, having spent 20 years as alderman for District 8 on the Milwaukee Common Council. Notable achievements include advocating for public safety, forming Operation Impact to fund police partnerships, and running for mayor of Milwaukee in 2016 and 2022 . He serves on the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety, married to Kathy with 5 children and 12 grandchildren, and resides in Greenfield.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Thomas More High School ; attended Marquette University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and St. Francis De Sales College.
- Political Experience: Entered politics in 1982 with unsuccessful runs for state assembly; elected to Milwaukee Common Council in 2000, focusing on crime prevention and neighborhood issues via the Southside Organizing Committee; elected to State Assembly in 2022; currently in second term representing District 61.
