Biography

Senator Blake Tillery

Blake Tillery is a Republican member of the Georgia State Senate, representing Senate District 19. He was sworn in on January 9, 2017, and has served continuously since 2016. His district encompasses Appling, Bacon, Jeff Davis, Long, Montgomery, Tattnall, Telfair, Toombs, Wayne, and Wheeler counties, as well as portions of Coffee County.

Tillery resides in Vidalia with his wife, Ashlee Nicole Sharer, whom he married in 2016. Ashlee Nicole is an obstetrician-gynecologist. The couple has two sons.

Known for his work ethic, Tillery is self-described as a "workaholic" who holds early morning meetings. Outside of his legislative duties, he enjoys family, friends, and University of Georgia football.

Education

Tillery is a graduate of the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor's Degree in International Affairs in 2006 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2010. He is a "Double Dawg," having received both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the university.

Political Experience

Prior to his Georgia Senate service, Tillery served as Chairman of the Toombs County Commission. He has also held positions on the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha Regional Commission, the Heart of Georgia Workforce Investment Board, and the Toombs County Boys and Girls Club Board, and co-chaired the Leadership Toombs-Montgomery program.

In the state legislature, Tillery holds several significant positions, including Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committees on Government Oversight and State Institutions and Property, and as Secretary for the Judiciary Committee. He is a member of multiple additional committees including Assignments, Economic Development and Tourism, and Reapportionment and Redistricting.

Professionally, Tillery practices law and is the managing partner at Smith and Tillery, P.C. in Vidalia. In 2013, he was named a Georgia Trend "40 Under 40" honoree. He is a graduate of the Leadership Georgia class of 2015 and a member of the Conservative Policy Leadership Institute and Republican Leadership for Georgia.
