Biography
Billy Beasley
William "Billy" M. Beasley is a Democratic politician from Clayton, Alabama, who represents District 28 in the Alabama State Senate. Born on March 19, 1940, he is a Methodist and a family man with a wife named Rebecca and five children: Martin, Brad, Margaret, Tom, and Rebecca. He also has 12 grandchildren.
His older brother, Jere Beasley, served as Lieutenant Governor of Alabama. Beasley has deep roots in his community, serving as a member of the Clayton United Methodist Church and the Barbour County Hospital Board.
Education
Beasley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from Auburn University in 1962. Following his education, he built a career in the pharmaceutical industry, serving as president of Pratts Station LLC and operating multiple drug stores including the Clayton Drug Company, Clio Drug Company, and Louisville Drug Store.
Political Experience
Beasley's political career spans nearly three decades. He was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1998, representing District 84 for three consecutive terms until 2010. In 2010, he successfully ran for the Alabama State Senate, defeating fellow Democrat Johnny Ford and succeeding Myron Penn.
He has served in the Alabama State Senate District 28 since 2010. A notable achievement was his service as State Senate Minority Leader from 2017 to 2019. He also considered running for Governor of Alabama in the 2014 election.
Currently, Beasley holds membership on several committees including Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; Finance and Taxation; Healthcare; and Transportation and Energy, where he serves as Ranking Minority Member. He also serves as Ranking Minority Member of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.
