Biography
Bill P. Wielechowski is an American lawyer and Democrat serving as a member of the Alaska Senate representing District K in Northeast Anchorage. He previously represented District H and District J . Notable achievements include leading a 2013-2014 effort to repeal oil and gas tax credits , co-filing a 2016 lawsuit challenging Permanent Fund Dividend cuts, and receiving awards such as the Charles Dick Medal of Merit and Legislator of the Year from Vietnam Veterans of America .
Education and Political Experience
Education: JD from Seton Hall University School of Law; BS in Business Management/Finance ; attended Hokkaido University Faculty of Law, Sapporo, Japan.
Political Experience: Elected to Alaska Senate in 2006, defeating incumbent Gretchen Guess's successor; reelected in 2010 with 58% of the vote. Served as majority member of Senate bi-partisan Working Group ; Chair, Senate Finance Judiciary and Military & Veterans Affairs Subcommittees; former Chair, Senate State Affairs Committee; Co-Chair, Joint Armed Services and Senate Resources Committees. Prior roles: Anchorage Planning & Zoning Commission ; Alaska Department of Labor Acting Chief of Adjudications and Hearing Officer ; Northeast Community Council Past President. Legislative service ongoing through 34th Legislature .
