Biography

Bill Posey, a Republican, represented Florida's 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, encompassing all of Brevard and Indian River Counties and portions of Orange County. Born on December 18, 1947, in Washington, D.C., he moved to Florida in 1956, attended Cocoa High School where he met his wife Katie, and worked at Kennedy Space Center before founding Posey & Co. Realtors. Notable achievements include authoring the book Activity Based Total Accountability, receiving the American Legislative Exchange Council's "National Legislator of the Year" award for government accountability efforts, and being an accomplished stock car racer honored with the short track driver achievement award in memory of Davey & Clifford Allison.

Education

Posey graduated from Cocoa High School in 1966 and earned an A.A. from Brevard Community College.

Political Experience

Posey began public service in 1974 on the Rockledge Planning Commission and was elected to the Rockledge City Council in 1976, serving 10 years. He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1992 for eight years, then in the Florida Senate from 2000 to 2010. Elected to the U.S. House in 2008, he served multiple terms, including as a member of the House Republican Study Committee, advocating for government accountability, insurance reforms, and motorsports policies.
