Bill Magnarelli

William Blaise Magnarelli was born on March 20, 1949, in Syracuse, New York. He is a member of the Roman Catholic faith and has deep roots in the Syracuse community. Magnarelli was married to Karen, a former city school teacher, for over 40 years until her passing in 2017. Together they raised three children and have four grandchildren: Olivia, Nora, Ella, and Wesley.
Education
Magnarelli attended Our Lady of Pompei School and St. John the Baptist Academy before pursuing higher education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Syracuse University and later graduated with honors from Syracuse University College of Law in 1973.
Political Experience
Magnarelli first won election to the Assembly in 1998 for an open seat and has been re-elected every two years since then. He previously served as majority leader on the Syracuse Common Council and unsuccessfully ran for Onondaga County Executive in 2007.
Following his law school graduation, Magnarelli served in the Army Reserves for six years, rising to the rank of Captain.
During his tenure in the Assembly, Magnarelli has prioritized bringing jobs to Central New York, lowering taxes, improving education, expanding healthcare access, public safety, and supporting veterans. His notable accomplishments include securing $37 million for the Syracuse Center of Excellence, funding the initial $20 million for the Syracuse University Connective Corridor, and helping secure $615.5 million for regional projects as a member of the Central New York Regional Economic Development Council. He has also authored healthcare legislation and supported comprehensive women's health coverage measures.
