Biography
William E. "Bill" Hauter is a Republican physician serving as the Illinois House Representative for the 87th district in Central Illinois, which includes parts of DeWitt, Logan, Macon, McLean, and Sangamon counties. He was sworn into office on January 1, 2023, for the 103rd General Assembly after previously serving the remainder of the 102nd General Assembly in the 88th district . Notable positions include co-chair of the Illinois EMT Training, Recruitment and Retention Task Force, member of the Rare Disease Commission , and member of the Children’s Health Caucus . He has opposed legislation expanding abortion access, such as HB 3637.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1997; completed residencies in Emergency Medicine and Anesthesiology at Indiana University.
- Professional Experience: Board-certified physician practicing Emergency Medicine and Anesthesiology at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria; partner with Associated Anesthesiologists, specializing in pediatric and adult cardiac anesthesia; Fellow and Delegate in the American Society of Anesthesiologists; Fellow in the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
