Biography
William “Bill” Conrad III is a Democratic/Independence/Working Families member representing New York's 140th Assembly District since January 2021. A lifelong resident of the Town of Tonawanda, he lives there with his wife, Mary Kate, and their four children. Notable achievements include securing $250,000 in state funding for the City of Tonawanda's capital needs, leading clean energy initiatives like the NYSERDA Clean Energy Community Designation and a U.S. Department of Energy award-winning Solarize campaign that transformed a landfill into a solar energy site, and advocating for economic development through the "Tonawanda Tomorrow" blueprint following the NRG Huntley Plant closure. He serves on the NYS Education Committee and emphasizes sustainability, innovation, and education in his work.
Education and Political Experience
Education: Graduated from the Sweet Home School system; earned a Bachelor’s degree with Honors from Fredonia State College; holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Buffalo State.
Political Experience: Worked for 21 years as a social studies teacher and coach in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda public schools, serving in leadership roles such as department chair and executive board member of the Kenmore Teachers Association. Appointed to the Town of Tonawanda Town Board in 2016; elected to the Town Council in 2017, where he chaired the Water Resources and Youth, Parks and Recreation committees. Active volunteer, including service on the Erie County Youth Board, founding the Kenmore Youth Rugby Club, and membership at St. John the Baptist Church in Kenmore.
