William "Bill" Clyburn, Sr. is a Democratic representative for District 82 in the South Carolina House of Representatives, covering Aiken, Edgefield, and Saluda Counties. Born on May 19, 1941, in Camden, South Carolina, he resides in Aiken and has served in the House since 1995. He is married to Beverly Clyburn, with three children: William Jr., Wilson, and Courtney. Clyburn is a member of Cumberland African Methodist Episcopal Church. Notable achievements include being the first African American elected to Aiken City Council and Aiken County Council , receiving the National Policy Maker of the Year award in 2001 from the National State Boards of Education, and earning Citizen of the Year six times. He proposed reflectors for rural roads, saving the SCDOT over $4 million annually and enhancing safety since 2005.
