Biography
William G. “Bill” Bush IV is an American Democratic politician who serves as a member of the Delaware House of Representatives, representing the 29th District, which includes parts of Kent County. Born in Dover, Delaware, Bush has deep roots in the community and has maintained an active presence in local civic and educational organizations. He is married to Carrie Bush, a K–12 teacher who has worked in both the Smyrna and Caesar Rodney School Districts. Together they have three sons and reside within the 29th District.
Bush is known for his background in law and public service, often emphasizing collaboration and pragmatic solutions. His legislative work focuses on economic development, infrastructure, education, agriculture, veterans affairs, and public safety.
Education
Bush is a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and later obtained a Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law. His legal training has informed much of his career in government and private practice.
Political Experience
Bush was first elected to the Delaware House of Representatives in the general election held on November 6, 2018, defeating Republican opponent Robin Hayes with 58 percent of the vote. He has represented District 29 since 2018 as a member of the Democratic Party.
In the House, Bush serves as Chair of the Committee on Economic Development/Banking/Insurance & Commerce, and as Vice-Chair of the Agriculture Committee. He also holds membership on several committees, including Capital Infrastructure, Veterans Affairs, Education, Judiciary, Elections & Government Affairs, and Natural Resources & Energy.
Earlier in his career, Bush worked as a policy advisor for the Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security, where he helped develop policies and laws intended to strengthen state security and support emergency services in the years following the 9/11 attacks. He also worked closely with Delaware fire, emergency medical, and police services, gaining firsthand experience with first responders’ challenges.
In addition, Bush has served as an attorney for the Delaware House of Representatives and as legal counsel to the Governor, roles that underscore his legal expertise and experience in state government operations. Outside of elected office, he operates his own small business and practices as a private attorney.
