Louis W. Blessing III

Louis W. Blessing III is a Republican member of the Ohio Senate, representing District 8, which encompasses the western and northern suburbs of Hamilton County.

Born November 11, 1980, in Cincinnati, Blessing is a lifelong resident of Ohio. He is the son of Lou Blessing, who previously served in both the Ohio Senate and Ohio House of Representatives before stepping down due to term limits. Blessing resides in Colerain Township with his wife, Heather, and their two children, Louis W. Blessing IV and Jimmy. The family is active in their community and belongs to St. Ann's parish.

Education

Blessing earned dual degrees from the University of Cincinnati: a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering .

Political Experience

Blessing began his political career in the Ohio House of Representatives, where he served four terms representing the 29th District starting in 2013. During his House tenure, he chaired the Government, Accountability, and Oversight Committee and the Primary and Secondary Education Committee. He also served on the House Finance Committee for three of his four terms.

Currently serving his first term in the Ohio Senate, Blessing has focused on education policy, tax reform, regulatory reform, and career-technical education initiatives. His legislative priorities have emphasized creating high-paying jobs and making Ohio attractive to employers.

Notable legislative efforts include co-sponsoring the 2019 Heartbeat Bill , which restricts abortion access, and introducing Senate Bill 395 to implement a top-three primary and consensus general election system in Ohio. He previously sponsored legislation addressing energy efficiency mandates, renewable energy policies, drug trafficking penalties, and alcohol beverage regulations.
