Biography
Betty Villegas
Betty Villegas is a native of Pima County and a third-generation Tucsonan. She is a devoted wife to Juan Villegas, a retired school teacher, and a proud mother of two daughters and two sons. As a grandmother to six grandchildren, she has remained deeply connected to her community throughout her life.
Political Experience
Villegas is a Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives, representing District 20 since July 2023. She was appointed to this position to succeed Andrés Cano.
Prior to her current role, she served as a member of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, to which she was appointed on April 7, 2020, following the unexpected passing of Supervisor Richard Elias. She completed his term during a critical period as the COVID-19 pandemic began.
Notable Achievements and Positions
Villegas brings extensive experience in community development and housing initiatives. She served as Housing Program Manager and Director of the Pima County Housing Center for 18 years, where she was instrumental in expanding housing opportunities and leading initiatives to protect people from predatory lending and foreclosure prevention. In 2016, she retired from this position in Pima County government.
Her professional background and deep knowledge of housing policy have established her as a valuable asset in addressing housing challenges facing Arizona communities.
