Biography
Beth Gardner Helfrich was born on January 21, 1981, and is an American politician serving as a member of the North Carolina General Assembly. A member of the Democratic Party, she has represented North Carolina's 98th House district since 2025. She represents the communities of Davidson, Cornelius, and Huntersville.
Helfrich won her seat by defeating former Huntersville mayor Melinda Bales in 2024, flipping the district from Republican control after the previous incumbent, John R. Bradford III, chose not to seek re-election. In her first year in office, she maintained a perfect attendance record, casting over 600 votes during the 2025 session.
Education
Helfrich is a third-generation Davidson resident and a proud graduate of North Mecklenburg High School and Davidson College.
Political Experience and Notable Achievements
Before her election to the North Carolina House, Helfrich worked as an educator and school leader, and served as a PTO president. She is also a small business owner with a family-owned business and works as a writer and editor.
As a state representative, Helfrich has focused on several key policy areas. She has authored bills addressing local zoning control, reproductive rights including IVF access, and public safety funding for her district. Additionally, her office has assisted hundreds of constituents with various issues, including DMV appointments, Department of Transportation questions, and Medicaid coverage matters.
Helfrich is married to Tim and is the mother of five children.
