Biography
Beth Doglio
Beth Maureen Doglio was born in 1965 and is an American politician and activist currently serving as a member of the Washington House of Representatives for Washington's 22nd legislative district, representing Position 1. She is a Democrat who has dedicated her career to progressive causes, particularly environmental protection, healthcare reform, and social justice.
Doglio originally served in the state legislature from 2017 to 2021. She left office to run for Washington's 10th congressional district in 2020 but placed second in the primary and lost to fellow Democrat Marilyn Strickland in the general election. She returned to the state legislature in 2022, winning election to her current position.
Education and Early Career
Doglio holds a degree from Indiana University in Political Science and Telecommunications. Before entering electoral politics, she built an extensive background in activism and nonprofit work. During the 1988 Democratic presidential primaries, she served as a state director for Senator Paul Simon's campaign. After relocating to Washington, she worked at Seattle Public Utilities and Telcordia Technologies.
Political Experience and Achievements
Doglio's career has centered on environmental advocacy and progressive policy. She was the founding executive director of Washington Conservation Voters, serving from 1991 to 1995. She has worked for numerous organizations advancing her values, including NARAL , Peace Action, Audubon Washington, and Pro-Choice Washington. For the past 20 years, she has worked at Climate Solutions, a Northwest-based clean energy nonprofit.
In the state legislature, Doglio currently serves her fourth term and holds the position of Chair of the House Environment & Energy Committee and serves as a member of the Joint Committee on Energy Supply, Energy Conservation, and Energy Resilience. She also serves on the Appropriations Committee and the State Government & Tribal Relations Committee. Throughout her legislative work, she has advocated for Medicare for All, immigration reform, Green New Deal legislation, and the expansion of public housing in the Puget Sound region.
Beyond her legislative role, Doglio chairs the Board of New Horizons, which provides housing to vulnerable populations and veterans, and serves on the Board of Trustees for South Sound YMCA. She lives in Olympia with her husband, Dr. Eddy Cates, and has two grown sons.
