Biography
Benjamin Bumgarner
Benjamin Bumgarner is an American politician representing Texas House District 63, which covers southern Denton County including Flower Mound, Lewisville, Carrollton, Coppell, Trophy Club, Fort Worth, Southlake, and Roanoke. A North Texas native and resident of Flower Mound, Bumgarner is a Republican and small business co-owner.
Before his election to the Texas House in 2023, Bumgarner served on the Flower Mound Town Council and held the position of Mayor Pro Tem. During his tenure on town council, he prioritized fiscal responsibility by reducing property taxes to historical lows, improving local government transparency, and reducing the town's debt.
Education
Bumgarner graduated from Austin College with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts, majoring in History and minoring in English.
Political Experience
Bumgarner currently serves on the Environmental Regulation and Pensions, Investments & Financial Services committees in the Texas House of Representatives.
Notable legislative achievements include:
- Authored and passed legislation during the 88th Legislative Session to crack down on human trafficking across Texas
- Co-authored House Bill 2615 to establish a foundation and trade diploma program within Texas school districts, providing vocational training aligned with workforce demands
- Co-sponsored House Bill 20 focusing on border safety measures and establishing a Border Protection Unit
- Co-sponsored legislation for property tax cuts, removal of sexually explicit materials from schools, bans on childhood gender modification, protection of women's sports, and border security funding
- Passed legislation to cut wasteful spending, shrink government size, protect Texas veterans, and protect service members' confidential information
