Biography

Senator Barry R. Finegold is a Democrat representing the 2nd Essex and Middlesex District in the Massachusetts State Senate, which includes Andover, Dracut, Lawrence, and Tewksbury. Elected to this seat in 2018, he previously held it from 2011 to 2015 and served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1997 to 2010, representing the 17th Essex District . At age 24, he became the youngest Selectman in Andover's history after defeating longtime incumbents. Notable achievements include chairing the Joint Committee on Election Laws, where he led passage of a major election reform bill enabling early voting, same-day registration, election audits, online voter registration, and pre-registration for 16- and 17-year-olds; chairing the Joint Committee on Public Service; serving on the Senate Ways & Means Committee; and previously chairing the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy to advance renewable energy policies. He is a founding and managing partner at Dalton & Finegold, LLP, a top-100 law firm in Massachusetts specializing in residential and commercial real estate.

  • Education: Graduate of Andover High School; B.A. in Government with a business concentration from Franklin & Marshall College; J.D. from Massachusetts School of Law ; attended the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
