Barbara Boyd

Barbara Bigsby Boyd was born on January 31, 1937, in Anniston, Alabama, where she currently resides. She is a Democratic member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 32 since her initial election in 1994. With over three decades of service in the state legislature, she has established herself as a prominent figure in Alabama politics.

Boyd has maintained a career deeply rooted in education and community service. She has been an active member of numerous civic and professional organizations, including the NAACP, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Education

Boyd earned her BA in French and English from Miles College in Birmingham in 1960. She later pursued advanced degrees from the University of Alabama, earning an MA in Supervision and Curriculum Development in 1976 and an EdD in Instructional Leadership and Reading.

Political Experience

Boyd has held several significant leadership positions within the Alabama House of Representatives:

Before her political career, Boyd worked as an instructor at multiple educational institutions, including JW Darden High School, Calhoun County Training School, and Weaver Junior and Senior High Schools from 1960 to 1985.
