Biography
Barbara Floyd Bailey is a Republican politician who represented Washington's 10th Legislative District in the state legislature. She served five terms in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2013, then two terms in the Senate from 2013 to 2019, retiring after 16 years of service effective September 30, 2019. Notable achievements include advocacy for veterans , breakthroughs in higher education , health care and aging issues, and securing water infrastructure investments; she served on key committees like Ways & Means, Health & Long Term Care, and Veterans and Military Affairs.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: B.S. in psychology from the State University of New York; Certified Marketing Executive and Certified Hotel Administrator.
- Political Experience: Elected to Washington House in 2002, defeating Democrat Eron Berg; advanced to Senate in 2012 by defeating incumbent Mary Margaret Haugen . Prior community roles: Oak Harbor Comprehensive Planning Task Force, Island County Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, Joint Committee on Tourism. Pre-legislature: Nationally recognized business, hotel management, and training consultant. Resides in Oak Harbor with husband; four children; active in community, church, schools, and Navy League.
