Biography
Barb Wasinger is a Republican representing Kansas House District 111, which includes Hays and surrounding areas in Ellis County. Born July 7, 1958, she has lived in Hays for over 34 years with her husband Tom, with whom she owns Ellis County Abstract and Title, LLC, and formerly W.T.C. Enterprises, LC, a property management firm. They raised four children and she is a grandmother to one. A dedicated community servant and active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wasinger emphasizes fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, reducing business regulations, and properly funding KPERS.
Notable achievements include serving as Hays City Commissioner and Mayor ; being the first woman elected Ellis County Commissioner for District 2 ; and defeating a nine-term incumbent to win her state House seat in 2018, where she has served since 2019. She currently chairs or serves on committees including Higher Education Budget , Joint Committee on Administrative Rules and Regulations, Financial Institutions and Pensions , and Taxation. Additional service includes founding board member of Hays Community Theater, Hays Public Library Board, and Kansas University Midwest Cancer Alliance.
