Biography
Barb Kniff McCulla is a Republican state representative serving Iowa's 37th House District, which includes most of Marion County, parts of southern Jasper County, and parts of western Mahaska County. Born in 1956 in Michigan, she resides in Pella, is married to Greg, and has four children. An entrepreneur and small business owner, she won her seat in 2022 after defeating incumbent Jon Thorup in the Republican primary and Democrat Mike Overman in the general election , assuming office on January 9, 2023.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a bachelor's degree from William Penn University.
- Political Experience: Serving her first term in the Iowa House of Representatives . Endorsed by Governor Kim Reynolds during her campaign. Active in the Marion County Republican Party.
- Notable Achievements and Positions: Member of Christian Opportunity Center, Leadership Council for NFIB Iowa Chapter, Marion County Bank Board, Marion County Development Board, Mid-Iowa Small Business Development Center Advisory Board, Past President’s Club of Central College, Pella Area Development Committee, Pella Community Foundation Board, PEO, and TTT. Former member of Friends of DMACC, Iowa Telecommunication and Technology Commission, Midwest One Bank Board, National Women’s Business Council, NFIB National Board, and Pella Day Care Center Board. Involved in establishing a Teen Challenge women's home in Pella, previous women's leadership at church, and Sunday School teaching.
