Biography
Austin Baeth is a Democratic representative for Iowa House District 36 , serving his first term in the Iowa House during the 90th General Assembly and continuing into the 91st . Born in 1984 in Des Moines, he was raised and currently resides there in the Sherman Hill neighborhood with his wife, Stephanie , and their two children, Javier and Ruby. An internal medicine physician, adjunct clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa, small business owner , and member of the Iowa Medical Society Board of Directors, Baeth advocates for equitable healthcare access, fully funded education, and evidence-based policies. He serves on the House Committee on Health Policy Oversight.
Education and Political Experience
Education: B.S. and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa; completed internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado in Denver.
Political Experience: Elected in 2024 as a Democrat to represent District 36; first term began in 2023. Ran on platforms addressing healthcare access, education funding, and community challenges under Republican control, drawing on his medical expertise to tackle "complex problems."
