Biography
Atoosa Reza Reaser is a Democratic delegate representing Virginia's 27th District in the House of Delegates, which encompasses parts of eastern Loudoun County. Born in Tehran, Iran, her family immigrated to the United States during the Iranian Revolution to escape oppression and ensure her access to freedom, education, and opportunity. A first-generation immigrant, English language learner, and lawyer, she is the first Iranian-American and first woman of Muslim heritage elected to the Virginia General Assembly. She has one son, Liam, and has lived in Loudoun County for over 20 years.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a B.A. in Modern Foreign Languages with a focus on Secondary Education from James Madison University; J.D. from Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University.
- Legal Career: Member of the Virginia State Bar, Loudoun Bar Association, and Virginia Women Attorneys Association. Served as Deputy Town Attorney for Herndon, general practice litigator, Associate General Counsel for a company with over 800 employees, and guardian ad litem qualified by the Virginia Supreme Court to advocate for children.
- Community Involvement: PTA leader, substitute teacher, merit badge counselor for her son’s Scouts BSA troop, and volunteer with LINK Against Hunger.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Loudoun County School Board , where she was twice elected Vice Chair by peers and championed academics, arts, teacher pay, and helped achieve a #1 ranking for Loudoun County Schools in Virginia. Elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2023; sworn in January 10, 2024. Serves on committees including Counties, Cities and Towns; Courts of Justice; and Education.
