Biography

Aron B. Wieder is a Democrat representing New York's 97th Assembly District in Rockland County, including Spring Valley. A longtime resident of Rockland County for over 30 years, he lives in Spring Valley with his wife and two children. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he is a proud public servant who flipped the 97th district seat in 2024 by defeating incumbent John W. McGowan.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Graduated from Machzikei Hadas Yeshiva in Brooklyn, followed by studies at rabbinical college in Israel.
  • Political Experience:
    • Elected to the East Ramapo Central School District Board in 2008, serving until 2011 as Vice-President and then President; championed full-day kindergarten and raised funds for the marching band.
    • Elected to the Rockland County Legislature in 2011, re-elected for four terms; served as Majority Leader, Chair of Public Safety Committee, and Chair of Budget and Finance Committee.
    • Key achievements include leading budgets that reduced property taxes twice, addressing county budget deficits, advocating for relief from unfunded state mandates, supporting environmental and social justice legislation, and spearheading the Stonehouse Road flood mitigation project—the largest infrastructure initiative in Spring Valley's recent history.
    • Unsuccessful Democratic runs for the 98th Assembly District in 2014 and 2016 .
    • Currently serves in the New York State Assembly , focusing on fiscal responsibility, public safety, property tax relief, and quality of life improvements; secured a $100,000 state grant for a new traffic signal in Orangetown.
