Biography

Senator April Weaver

April Weaver is a Republican member of the Alabama State Senate representing District 14, which encompasses Bibb, Chilton, and Shelby counties. Born April 13, 1971, in Alabaster, Alabama, Weaver has built a career centered on healthcare administration and public service. She assumed office as a state senator on July 14, 2021, following a special election, and was re-elected in 2022 to begin her first full term.

Prior to her Senate service, Weaver worked in healthcare leadership roles, including as director of operations at Shelby Baptist Medical Center and director of public, community, and government relations at Brookwood Medical Center. Between her House and Senate tenures, she served as Region IV Director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under the Trump Administration.

Weaver is married to Darrell and has four children. She is a Baptist and resides in Alabaster.

Weaver holds multiple degrees reflecting her expertise in business and healthcare:

Political Experience

Weaver began her legislative career in 2010 when she was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives for District 49. She served in the House for a decade until 2020, earning distinction as the first woman appointed to chair the House Health Committee. She was re-elected in 2014 and 2018, running unopposed in her initial general election.

In the State Senate, Weaver serves on multiple committees, including as Vice Chair of the Confirmations Committee and the Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development Committee. She is also a member of the Finance and Taxation General Fund, Healthcare, Judiciary, and Rules committees. Additionally, she serves as Vice Chair of the Shelby County Legislation Committee.

Weaver brings over 25 years of healthcare administration experience to her legislative work and has been involved in significant policy initiatives, including her sponsorship of the "Every Mother Matters Act" in 2022, which addressed abortion and social services for new mothers.
