Biography

Antonio Delgado, a Democrat, serves as Lieutenant Governor of New York since May 2022, previously representing New York's 19th congressional district in the U.S. House from 2019 to 2022. Born January 28, 1977, in Schenectady, New York, to working-class parents employed at General Electric, he is the first African American and person of Latino descent elected to Congress from Upstate New York, and the first Latino to hold statewide office in the state. Notable achievements include 18 bills signed into law during his congressional tenure, such as the Small Business Relief Accessibility Act, Strengthening Financial Aid for Students Act, Improving Benefits for Underserved Veterans Act, and Direct Support for Communities Act; he also voted to impeach President Donald Trump in 2019 and 2021. In June 2025, he announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Governor of New York in 2026.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: Graduated from Colgate University, where he earned a Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University; later received a law degree from Harvard Law School.
