Senator C. Anthony Muse

Charles Anthony Muse was born on April 17, 1958, in Baltimore, Maryland. He is an American politician and minister who has established a prominent career in Maryland politics spanning multiple decades. Muse is the founder and senior pastor of the Ark of Safety Christian Church in Upper Marlboro and has previously served as senior pastor of Gibbons United Methodist Church in Brandywine, Maryland.

Political Experience

Party Affiliation: Democrat

Current Position: Muse currently serves as a Maryland State Senator representing District 26 in Prince George's County, having been elected in November 2022 and sworn in on January 11, 2023. He holds the position of Vice Chair of the Executive Nominations Committee and serves on the Judicial Proceedings Committee.

Previous Senate Service: He previously represented the same district from 2007 to 2019, during which he held several significant positions including Senate Chair of the Joint Committee on Fair Practices and State Personnel Oversight and chair of the Prince George's County Delegation .

House of Delegates: Before his Senate career, Muse served in the Maryland House of Delegates representing District 26 from January 11, 1995, to January 13, 1999. During this time, he served on the Ways and Means Committee, which addresses taxation and state spending, and held the position of Chaplain of the Maryland Legislative Black Caucus.

Early Government Service: Muse first entered public service as a member of the Maryland State Ethics Commission from 1987 to 1992. His initial run for the Maryland House of Delegates in 1990 was unsuccessful, but he won his 1994 campaign for District 26.
