Biography
Anne Watson
Anne Watson was born in Burlington, Vermont and grew up in Essex, where she attended Essex High School. She is a science and math teacher who has been educating students since 2004. Watson is an ultimate Frisbee coach and has served on the Vermont Youth Ultimate League. She lives in Montpelier with her husband and son.
Education
Watson earned her bachelor's degree in physics with a minor in mathematics from Penn State University. She completed her graduate degree in secondary education from the University of Vermont.
Political Experience
Current Position: Anne Watson is a Democrat/Progressive serving as a Vermont State Senator representing the Washington District . She has been a member of the Senate since 2023.
During her first term as Senator, Watson served as Vice Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Energy Committee and served on the Government Operations Committee. Currently, she is the Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Energy Committee and also serves on the Appropriations Committee.
Notable Achievements: Watson was a co-lead sponsor on the Climate Superfund bill, which requires large oil companies to pay for climate damage caused by their products. She was a leader in passing H.626, which updates how Vermont addresses animal cruelty.
Prior Service: Before her election to the State Senate, Watson served as Mayor of Montpelier, elected in 2018 and reelected in 2020 and 2022. She was appointed to the Montpelier City Council in 2012 to represent District 2, maintaining that seat through three elections. In total, she spent nearly ten years as a locally elected official.
