Biography
Anne Meiman Hughes is a Democratic member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, representing District 135, which includes the towns of Easton, Weston, and Redding in Fairfield County. She is serving her fourth term, having first been elected in 2018 as the first Democrat to represent the district in over three decades, and won re-election in 2024. A licensed master social worker, she works for Jewish Senior Services' Institute on Aging and as Coordinator for the Center for Elder Abuse Prevention. She lives in Easton with her husband, Tim, and champions policies on environmental justice, equitable healthcare access, fair taxation, elder protection, gun safety, and utility accountability.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated cum laude from the College of New Rochelle; earned a Master of Social Work from the University of New England. She teaches at the Campaign Academy for Electing Social Workers.
- Political Experience: Assumed office in 2019. Serves on the Aging, Human Services, Labor and Public Employees, and Energy and Technology committees. Co-chairs the House Progressive Democratic Caucus and the Complex Care Committee of the Medical Assistance Program Oversight Council . Member of the Commission on Environmental Standards for Offshore Wind , Bipartisan Women's Caucus, Animal Advocacy Caucus, Social Work Caucus, Climate Caucus, and Reproductive Justice Caucus.
- Notable Achievements: Key role in passing the Take Back Our Grid Act, stronger environmental justice laws, paid family medical leave, healthcare worker protections, elder abuse safeguards, and gun safety measures like safe storage and domestic violence protections.
