Biography
Delegate Anitra Hamilton is a Democratic member of the West Virginia House of Delegates representing District 81 . Appointed in May 2023 by Gov. Jim Justice, she is a healthcare worker focused on public service, maternal health, and community advocacy.
Born on June 20, 1977, in Princeton, West Virginia, Anitra L. Hamilton grew up in McDowell County and now resides in Morgantown. A Christian and ordained minister at Agape Life Ministries, she has deep roots in community leadership, including serving as president of the Morgantown-Kingwood Branch NAACP. Her entry into politics stemmed from advocacy on Black maternal and infant mortality rates, leading her to form a coalition for legislative action before her appointment. Notable affiliations include Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, vice chair of WVU's Office of the Provost Council for Gender Equity, and chair of the annual Pretty 5K race for college scholarships. In 2025, she sponsored bills like HB 3339 and HB 3340 .
