Biography

Anil Beephan Jr.

Anil Beephan Jr. is a Republican and Conservative member of the New York State Assembly representing the 105th Assembly District, which comprises parts of Dutchess County including Amenia, Beekman, Dover, East Fishkill, Fishkill, LaGrange, Pawling, Union Vale, and Wappinger. He is the first Republican of Indian and Caribbean descent to serve in the New York State Legislature.

Beephan is from Hopewell Junction, New York. Before his election to the state assembly, he served as a volunteer firefighter for the East Fishkill Fire District for over eight years and worked as a Community Relations Specialist for New York State Senator Sue Serino. He was elected as an East Fishkill Councilman in 2018, where he implemented term limits for town elected officials, supported fiscally responsible budgets, and spearheaded economic development initiatives.

Beephan announced his candidacy for the 105th Assembly District in October 2021 and won the general election on November 8, 2022, with 60.4% of the vote. He assumed office on January 1, 2023.

As an Assemblyman, Beephan has focused on holding public utility companies accountable, reducing wasteful spending, alleviating tax burdens, and securing additional funding for local schools, infrastructure, law enforcement, and emergency services. He has also launched initiatives to support law enforcement and defend small businesses and religious freedoms. Additionally, Beephan is a private pilot.

Education and Political Experience

Beephan graduated from Arcadia University in Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2016 and earned a Master's degree in Management from Harvard Extension School in 2019. Before entering politics, he worked as a public relations and marketing strategist.

His legislative experience includes working in different roles for New York State Senator Sue Serino before his election to the state assembly. Since taking office in the Assembly, he has introduced legislation including "Melanie's Law" in response to community concerns.
