Angela Suzanne Paxton , born February 14, 1963, is a Republican member of the Texas Senate representing District 8 since 2019. Elected in November 2018, she serves a fast-growing district including Collin, Hunt, and Rains counties, home to professional sports headquarters, Fortune 1000 companies, and top-rated schools. Hailing from McKinney, she is a former secondary math teacher and school counselor with over 20 years of experience, marking her as the first educator elected to the Texas Senate in over two decades. Notable committee roles include Chair of Economic Development, Vice Chair of State Affairs and the Religious Liberty Select Committee, and service on Finance, Education, Higher Education, Local Government, and Nominations; she is also Secretary of the Texas National Security Caucus Executive Committee and past Chair of the Senate Republican Caucus.
