Biography
Andy Billig
Andy Billig resides in Spokane, Washington, with his family. Professionally, he is the co-owner and former President and General Manager of the Spokane Indians Baseball Team, a role he has held since 1992. He continues to hold an active management and ownership role with the Indians as well as with Brett Sports and Entertainment. Under his leadership, the organization received recognition for customer service, community involvement, and business excellence.
Billig is a runner and triathlete who has completed the Coeur d'Alene Ironman Triathlon. His community volunteer work includes serving as a volunteer youth sports coach and a Big Brother with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest. He has served on various boards and task forces, including the Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs, the Washington State Sustainable Aviation Biofuels Workgroup, and the Washington Institute for Public Policy. Previously, he served on the City of Spokane Human Services Advisory Board and the organizing committee for Bike to Work Week.
During his time in the Legislature, Billig received several awards, including the Washington Association of School Administrators Golden Gavel Award, the Children's Alliance Champion for Children Award, the Early Learning Action Alliance Golden Crayon Award, and the Latino Hope Foundation elected official of the year. He also received the Fix Democracy First Outstanding Elected Leader Award and the FUSE Inter-Continental Smackdown Champion Award.
Education
Billig graduated cum laude from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., with a Bachelor of Science degree in government.
Political Experience
Andy Billig is a member of the Democratic Party. He served in the Washington State Legislature for multiple terms, including one term in the Washington State House of Representatives and multiple terms in the Washington State Senate.
Washington State House of Representatives
Prior to his election to the Senate, Billig served one term in the Washington State House of Representatives. During the 2011-2012 legislative session, he served as the vice chair of the House Transportation Committee. His committee assignments during this period included Education, Technology, Energy and Communications, Transportation, and Joint Transportation. In his first year in the Legislature, he prime-sponsored HB 1489, which eliminated unnecessary phosphorous in lawn fertilizer to improve water quality.
Washington State Senate
Billig was elected to the Washington State Senate in 2012, representing District 3. He assumed office on January 14, 2013, and left office on January 13, 2025. In November 2018, he was selected by his peers to serve as Senate Majority Leader.

Legislation and Advocacy
Billig sponsored and passed legislation focused on early learning access, the Safe Routes to School Program, campaign finance reform, voter access, reducing property crimes, and fully funding K-12 schools. In 2015, he was selected to serve on the special McCleary Committee to lead the state's effort to comply with constitutional obligations regarding basic education funding. During the 2020 legislative session, he led the Senate with a bipartisan Coronavirus response bill that authorized $200 million for public health efforts. He also served as the Founding Chair of the Washington State Alternative Jet Fuel Workgroup for 12 years and championed SB 5447 to promote sustainable aviation fuels.

* 2020: Billig won re-election to the Washington State Senate District 3 in the general election on November 3, 2020, defeating Dave Lucas.
