Andre F. Baker Jr. was born and raised in New Rochelle, New York, and relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut, in 1994. A businessman driven by compassion, he owns and operates Baker-Isaac Funeral Services in Bridgeport and Baker Funeral Services in South Norwalk. Before entering state politics, he was active in Bridgeport community service, including membership in Mt. Aery Baptist Church, where he served on the Community Development Corporation Board and as Vice Chair of the Trustee Ministry. His political career began in 2003 on the Democratic Town Committee and as a Planning and Zoning Commissioner. He then served eight years on the Bridgeport Common Council for the 139th East End District, chairing committees like Budget and Appropriations, and leading the Black and Hispanic Caucus as President. From 2013-2015, he sat on the Bridgeport Board of Education. Elected to the Connecticut House in 2014, he assumed office on January 7, 2015, and won re-election in 2024.
