Biography

Anamarie Ávila Farías is a Democrat representing California's 15th Assembly District in Contra Costa County, including communities like Concord, Antioch, Brentwood, and Martinez. She has served in the California State Assembly since 2024, following her election after advancing from the primary against Republican Sonia Ledo. Born in 1973 in Martinez, she is married with two children, Catholic, and known for her advocacy in affordable housing, education equity, and economic development, drawing from her experience overcoming socioeconomic challenges.

Notable achievements include being the first Latina elected to the Martinez City Council in 2012, where she served one term and later as vice mayor; appointment to the California Housing Finance Agency Board by Governors Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom ; and leading a successful 2017 lawsuit under the California Voting Rights Act that reformed the Martinez Unified School District board to districts, resulting in $90,000 in legal fees paid by the district.
