Biography
Analise Ortiz is a Democratic member of the Arizona State Senate representing Legislative District 24, which includes Maryvale and Glendale. A Latina civil rights activist and former journalist born and raised in Arizona, she grew up in a family of six children with parents who were educators, instilling in her a commitment to community service. Notable achievements include passing a law to protect workers from extreme heat, securing funding for childcare, homelessness, and legal aid, leading efforts to lower housing costs, negotiating historic investments in affordable housing and homeless services, and serving as ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee to fight over-criminalization and protect reproductive rights. She has been recognized as Best Political Rising Star by the Arizona Capitol Times and Legislator of the Year by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated summa cum laude from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University .
- Early Career: Worked as a breaking news reporter for The Arizona Republic, multimedia journalist for KGBT-TV in Harlingen, Texas , and KTNV-TV in Las Vegas; later as communications and campaign strategist for ACLU of Arizona championing criminal justice and immigration reform, and since 2021 as communication strategist at Rural Arizona Engagement.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in November 2022 for Legislative District 24; subsequently elected to the Arizona State Senate for the same district. Running for re-election in the Democratic Primary on July 21, 2026.
