Biography
Amy Scott Galey is a Republican state senator representing District 25 in the North Carolina Senate, which includes Alamance and Randolph counties. She assumed office on January 1, 2021, initially for District 24 before redistricting to District 25. Currently serving her third term in the 2025-2026 session, she holds the position of Senate Majority Whip. A resident of Burlington, North Carolina, she is married to Fred and has three children. Notable achievements include sponsoring the Dignity for Incarcerated Women Act, which prohibits shackling women in labor and provides parenting classes, nutrition, and health support for pregnant incarcerated women. She also serves as Co-Chair of the Senate Committee on Legislative Administrative Procedure Oversight.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Western Alamance High School; earned a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a JD from the University of North Carolina School of Law. Licensed to practice law in North Carolina, South Carolina, and the District of Columbia.
- Political Experience: Grew up in Union Ridge, Alamance County; elected to the Alamance County Board of Commissioners in 2016 and served as Chair from 2017–2020. Elected to the North Carolina Senate in 2020, with three terms served to date .
